Democratic strategyist James Carville claimed on Tuesday that the race was the main factor in the rep. Democratic in New Jersey Rep. Lamonica McIVER for allegedly attacking federal officers outside an Ice facility.
As he appeared on Msnbc’s “The Beat With Melber”, Carville called the charges another line that had been overcome by the Trump administration, but added that there may have been worse motivations.
“My personal opinion [is] I think they went after her and I think her race is about it. I will simply flatten and say that, “Carville said.
Melber asked him to prove the request. Carville admitted that he had no evidence, but insisted it was “what they have to do.”
“Because that’s what they are, and they are trying to show that we are against them,” Carville said. “They talk about America’s blood and blood poisoning, and they talk about this kind of items. Again, let me be very clear. I don’t have any evidence, but if you ask me, do you think that’s what happened? Yes, I think that’s what happened. If it were a white congress, they wouldn’t have arrested it.”
He continued to claim that the allegations were made to “change the conversation” as “the economy is going terribly.”
White House spokesman Abigail Jackson commented on the Fox News Digital: “No one – despite their work title – can be allowed to attack ICE agents and leave with it. President Trump is committed to removing illegal strangers from the country and protecting our law enforcement officers.”
MCIVER was protesting at Delaney Hall’s detention center earlier this month with two other Congress members to carry out what they claimed were their duties to oversee the mandated Congress.
US lawyer for New Jersey District Alina Habba said in a statement, “No one is above the law – politicians or otherwise.” She added, “The work of this office is to support justice impartially, no matter who you are. Now we will allow the justice system to function.”
Secretary of Internal Security Department Kristi Noem said in a post on X, “If any person, regardless of the political party, influence or status, attacks a law enforcement officer, such as Congressman witnesses, MCIVER, you will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
Law enforcement said MCIVER attacked agents when she “slammed her forearm on the body of a HSI uniformed agent, and managed to restrain the agent by forcefully grab”. Then, after Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested, McIVER allegedly “pushed an ICE officer and used her forearms to force the agent.”
On Wednesday, rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., introduced a home resolution to officially expel MCIVER.
