“The View” co-perpetrator Sunny Hostin revealed Monday that now “loves” Pope Leo XIV after discovering his “black” background.
Host had previously expressed concern about the new Pontiffin on Friday after his comments referring to the re -emerging “gay living”. On Monday, she spoke more optimistic about Pope Leo after teaching his mother’s grandparents were described as “colorful people” in documents, with the original hometown of his grandfather listed as Haiti.
“There is another thing that is very interesting to me because President Trump, as you remember, called Hait a certain kind of country,” Hostin said. “As it turns out, our young American pope has the roots of Haiti and black! So we actually have a black pope, apparently. It is a kiss of a cook for me.”
After Pope Leo was announced on Thursday, Hostin said she was “concerned” about the LGBTQ community based on a statement he made in 2012 as a bishop, where he described how pop culture had prompted “sympathy for the beliefs and practices of the same sex and their practices.”
Hostin on Monday said she was most encouraged by Pope Leo based on comments from 2023 for which she thought he had completely changed his position.
“He said, you know, he believes what Pope Francis believed is that a church is a church for everyone. The church is very comprehensive. So I like this guy very much! I’m loving Pope,” Hostin said.
Her co-coconuts Ana Navarro and Whoopi Goldberg also praised Pope Leo after he delivered a speech earlier that morning expressing support for imprisoned journalists.
“He said he was in solidarity with journalists who were imprisoned for reporting the truth and asked them to avoid ideological or partisan language. I like it. I am digging it,” Goldberg said.

“I like one of his first acts was to meet journalists and defend the right of journalists to be journalists and reveal the truth,” Navarro added. “And I think it’s so much as we have an American pope because we’re going through things in this country, and it’s good to tell the world that not all American leaders are the same. Good to have an American who can denounce things that happen against immigrants here.”
“And it is good to have a black pope,” he looked at the host.
She again demanded that he is a “black pope” when other co-perpetrators shared their excitement for Pope Leo.
