Looking at the red usually means that you are ready to blow a fuse – but when it comes to sleeping, it may only be what your brain needs.
Dave asprey, self-proclaimed “Biohacking father”, swears a smart iPhone trick that uses red light to keep your screen from sabing your sleep-and it’s not just the transition to “Night Shift” mode.
“That’s what the biohackers do so that their phones don’t wake up at night,” Asprey Post told.
Why is blue light is the real sleep of sleep
It all comes down to your Cirkadian rhythm – the inner clock that signals when it’s time to wake up and when it’s time to rest.
As the sun goes down, your brain begins in night mode by releasing melatonin, a hormone that makes us feel tired. But blue light from your phone and other screens interferes with that process by pressing melatonin production, making it harder to fall – and stay – asleep.
Worse still, research suggests that blue light does not only delay sleep; It also affects its quality. Studies show that night exposure can reduce the time we spend deep asleep and rapid eye movement (REM), which are both essential for consolidating memories, regulating mood and supporting general cognitive function.
This is an important problem, especially as nearly 90% of Americans report using a bed screen before falling asleep most nights, according to a study of sleepopolis.
The red light in the rescue
The SLEEP Foundation recommends empowering your electronic devices, such as mobile phones, at least 30 minutes before bed. But in today’s united world, this is said easier than done-involved in the middle of the night.
“You need to be able to wake up, check your alarm and go back to sleep, but if your iPhone is this standard blindness, it doesn’t work,” ASPERY said.

Unlike blue light, red light has longer wavelengths, which our eyes perceive as darker. Some research suggests that it can stimulate melatonin production rather than suppress it.
One study found that female athletes who used red light therapy for 30 minutes a night were sleeping better for two weeks, had higher levels of melatonin and even better performed in sustainability compared to a placebo group.
There is also evidence that red light can help maintain night vision and reduce quarrels after you wake up.
How to activate red mode on your iPhone
Make your sleep friendly screen in seconds with these simple steps:
- Open settings
- Tap access to access
- Go to the show and the size of the text
- Choose color filters
- Change color filters, then select “Color of Color” as your filter
