Famous iPhone designer and former ex-enchantment of the former Jont Jone Ive joining

Famous iPhone designer Jony Ive is joining Openai after his launch of his artificial intelligence equipment was purchased by manufacturer Chatgpt in a comprehensive agreement worth nearly $ 6.5 billion, the company said on Wednesday.

The acquisition of Ive’s firm, called IO, is the largest in the history of the company led by Sam Altman. Ive is best known for its close collaboration with Apple’s Steve Jobs to develop the company’s most famous products.

Ive, who left Apple in 2019, will “assume deep design and creative responsibility throughout Openai and IO” as part of the agreement, according to a press release.

The partnership can be placed by Openai in direct competition with Apple, which is still relying on iPhone sales for most of his income.

San Francisco-based IO had already destroyed a pair of former Apple leaders, Tang Tan, who led the teams responsible for the design of iPhone and Apple Watch, and Evans Hankey, who undertook Ive as Apple’s best stylist before leaving in 2023. Both will join in Ive in Opennai.

“I have a growing sense that everything I have learned over the past 30 years has led me to the moment,” Ive said in a statement. “While I am also concerned and excited about the responsibility of the essential work ahead, I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of such important cooperation.”

Apple’s shares were reduced more than 2% in trade on Wednesday, with losses accelerating after news of cooperation appeared.

Openai will pay $ 5 billion in action as part of the transaction. Altman’s firm already held an action in IO before receiving. The deal is expected to close this summer pending regulatory approval.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Ive and Altman said their first product is expected to debut in 2026. A total of 55 employees, including software developers and equipment engineers, will work for OpenAi under the IO umbrella.

“It is an extraordinary technology, but excellent tools require work at the intersection of technology, design and understanding of people and the world,” Altman said in a statement. “No one can do this as an non -team and his team; the amount of care they put in every aspect of the process is extraordinary.”

Prior to the agreement, Altman and Ive were already collaborating on the development of a central device since 2023-that reports have changed if the device is best described as a smartphone, a tablet or a completely new format.

Openai recently provided a $ 300 billion rating and is closed in competition with Google’s likes, Elon Musk and others to stay in the race to develop advanced.

Last month, the information reported that Openai had discussed a possible “full purchase” of the firm of Ive.
