DC-based DC winning anchor, which went viral in Thanksgiving for a Cringeworthy news segment finally revealed this week that he retired into the air-and didn’t even realize how shaky he was.
The now-forming journalist NBC4 Washington Leon Harris addressed the unpleasant moment in which he fought strongly as he gave the news, including obstacles to difficult words and hesitations.
He said there were some glasses of wine with dinner within four hours between performances, but that was enough to push it out of kilo.
“I ended up drinking between shows and then went into the air and got touched more than I thought I was, even when I felt good,” he told the former CNN Daryn Kagan speaking at her new show on YouTube, “Call with Friend”.
“I ended up pulling out of the air. People were calling. They were thinking I was doing a stroke. It was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me.”
“My body has changed and I can’t drink anymore,” Harris added, who had faced past drinking problems. “And I didn’t understand it.”
Harris said his boss had to enter the station at the Thanksgiving Feast and instructed him to enter a Uber to go home.
He took a post -broadcast absence – a video of which quickly spread to social media – and last month announced together with NBC4 Washington that he was leaving the station for the better.
“I knew it was coming, but the station simply felt it was a very negative event, it was very well-publicized that they did not feel comfortable returning to me,” Harris told Kagan. “Even though I left, I immediately went to rehabilitation.”
When he announced his permanent departure, he said it was a “difficult decision”, but that he had to focus on his health after 40 years of work without stopping. At that time, he did not provide more details.
Harris previously worked in CNN with Kagan, the interviewer and other local DC stations. The talented broadcaster covered a host of historical news events, including the Oklahoma city bombing, Oj Simpson Judge and the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
He also won numerous local Emmy awards.
The journalist said it was intestinal grief when he first looked at the viral footage of his “career change”.
“It was like ‘Oh my Lord’, I didn’t know I was so far away,” he said. “And it was clear and it was clear.”
Harris first spoke about his fight with alcohol in March 2022 after he got into trouble to slam into another car while driving under influence.
“I’ve had a battle with alcoholism,” he said this week. “I really didn’t fully appreciate it.”
The broadcast journalist said he still receives phone calls from worried friends who only recently saw the shocking video, but he assured them that he is in better condition now.
He said he did not think of drinking a drink since December 14, 2024, as he received essential help, but can always be remembered for the difficult moment.
“And knowing it’s online and still alive is something I will never be able to live down,” Harris said.
