CNN will launch a new streaming product this fall, approximately three years after its expensive and short -lived CNN+ transmission service was closed only one month after its start.
CNN Director General Mark Thompson made the announcement during a meeting with staff on Tuesday, according to the New York Times, who first reported on news.
CNN said the new transmission product will be expanded to its existing digital reconciliation service for clients, which currently gives paid subscribers unlimited access to articles on the CNN website and exclusive content.
In a press release, CNN said the new service will give customers a “simple and centralized way” to access their news content on all platforms – their mobile app, TV -related applications and website. It will be part of a level of reconciliation of the entire Access Access, the company added.
“CNN has led and innovated in video -led journalism since its inception, and expanding our subscription offer to include transmitting embodiment that pioneer spirit,” said Alex MacCallum, executive vice president, digital products and services in a statement. “We are giving the audience an even more convenient way to get into reliable CNN reporting and the original-joined programming together in an intuitive, easy to use experience.”
CNN has not notified details about prices or a date of release yet.
The announcement comes approximately three years after CNN’s parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, removed its former transmission service, CNN+, one month after its start and immediately after the discovery completed its union with Warnermedia in April 2022.
CNN+ was reviewed at the time to rely on paid subscribers when CNN’s basic cable version was already struggling to attract an audience.
“CNN+ is currently set up to fail with a revenue model just for reconciliation,” wrote the founder of Progress Ventures Nick Macshane in Adweek at the time.
The service, which CNN is reported to spend $ 300 million to build, failed to resonate with viewers and mocked the discovered subscription data discovered low numbers.
After pulling the plug to CNN+, the then CEO Chris Licht said: “As we become Warner Bros. Discovery, CNN will be stronger as part of the WBD transmission strategy which foresees the news as an important part of a wider compelling offer along with sports, entertainment and non-fiction content.”
“Therefore, we have made the decision to stop CNN+ operations and focus our investments on the essential operations of CNN news collection and further construction of CNN Digital,” Licht continued. “This is not a decision on quality; we appreciate all the work, ambition and creativity that went to the construction of CNN+, an organization with scary talent and persuasive programming. But our customers and CNN will be best served with a simpler transmission choice.”
CNN broadcasting products come after FOX announced its new comprehensive broadcast platform, “Fox One”, will also debut this fall.
Fox One, a full -owned transmission platform, will give customers directly broadcast and require access to all Fox brands, including FOX News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, Fox Sports, FS1 (Fox Sports 1), FS2, BTN (Big Ten Network), FOX Deports, Fox.
