Radio conservative personality Erick Erickson issued a sharp reprimand of President Donald Trump on Monday for his decision to accept a $ 400 million Boeing 747-8 from the Qatari royal family-a move that has attracted growing bipartisan control.
Erickson, a long voice in the right -wing media, rejected the idea that the gift was technically a bribe or complete corruption, but argued that the symbolic and moral implications of accepting such a gift from Qatar were deeply disturbing.
“This is my problem by getting the airplane from Qatar. It’s not a bribe. It’s not that it’s corrupt,” Erickson said in his program.
“My problem with getting this aircraft from Qatar is that I don’t think the President of the United States of America should sit down and fly on a plane purchased with the same money used to kill US citizens.”
Erickson called the state of energy rich in energy “a fraudulent regime that is not our friend” while mourning the fact that “many people in Washington, DC, treat Qatar as they treated China 20 years ago, as if it were an innocent place that is only involved in things.”
The Qatari government has attracted criticism of its financial and diplomatic links with Hamas, which has been appointed a terrorist organization by the US and the European Union.
While Qatar has denied directing terrorist operations directly, she has long secured Sanctanty for Hamas’s political leadership and has accumulated billions in the Gaza Strip.
The nation also maintains friendly links with Iran, raising further concerns among critics of the Trump administration’s foreign confusion.
Erickson also targeted prosecutor General Pam Bondi, highlighting her previous work as a paid lobby for the Qatar government before joining the Trump cabinet.
“Pam bondi … was a lobbyist for Qatar. She made $ 119,000 a month,” he said.
“I don’t think we have to agree with Pam Bondi saying,” Oh, yes, Qatar can donate this to the Defense Department on the condition that you go to Trump’s presidential library. “I think she is opening Donald Trump for legal problems later.”
Qatar, he argued, spends large sums to “improve his image as he pays terrorists to kill American citizens”.
“I don’t think the president’s air force replacement should be a plane bought with the same money used to kill American citizens,” Erickson said.
Republican lawmakers have also expressed concern. Sen. Rand Paul (r-ky.) Criticked the gift optics, saying to Punchbowl News: “I don’t think it looks good or smells well.”
“The gift granted by a foreign government is always accepted in full compliance with all applicable laws.
A White House official told The Post that while it is true that Qatar offered to donate a plane to the Pentagon, Gift will not be “introduced and accepted this week” while the president is in Qatar. He is scheduled to visit the country on Wednesday.
While Qatar’s ties with Hamas have aroused controversy, his role as host of the group’s political leadership was initially encouraged by the United States and Israel.
The idea was that Qatar could serve as a neutral mediator, helping the broker breaks and facilitating indirect negotiations, especially during hostages or gas on gas.
Over the years, Qatar has supplied billions to humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip – often with smooth coordination from Israel. Critics argue that this aid has indirectly supported Hamas’s authority in the region, although its stated purpose has been to relieve poverty and repair infrastructure.
At the same time, Qatar remains one of America’s most important military partners in the region.
Al -Udeid air base, located near Doha, accommodates the largest US military presence in the Middle East and serves as a major center of US Central Command operations.
