Apple is reported to have increased price growth for its latest iPhone 17 models this fall – a complicated part of the ongoing trade negotiations between US and China.
Price increases would be implemented along with new iPhone features, such as artificial intelligence tools referred to as “Apple Intelligence”, and design changes, including thinner and folding models.
The company, led by CEO Tim Cook, wants to avoid any tricks that growths are due to US tariffs for the goods made by the Chinese, reported Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the issue.
President Trump announced a deal on Monday in which the US and China agreed to significantly reduce the rates of mutual tariffs. US tariffs on Chinese goods dropped to 30% from 145%, while Chinese tariffs on American goods dropped to 10% from 125%.
Apple’s shares increased 5% in early trading Monday for optimism about trade notice.
Trump told reporters that he had spoken with COOK earlier on Monday – but he did not address the report on the possible increase in iPhone prices. Instead, the president suggested that Cook and Apple could invest even more than $ 500 billion it has already engaged in the US economy in the coming years.
“He will build a lot of plants in the SH.BA for Apple,” Trump said.
The rate of increased prices was not known immediately. Currently, the cheapest model available iPhone 16 is ranked for $ 799 on Apple’s website.
Apple did not immediately return a comment request.
Apple produces most of its iPhone and other equipment in China. However, the company has increasingly seen to relocate production to India due to unstable trade relationships between Beijing and Washington.
Last month, reports showed that Apple was demanding that India produces most of its iPhone by 2026. Apple also tried to import more iPhones from India in the last weeks to get ahead of higher tariffs.
However, China is expected to continue to produce higher level models like the iPhone Pro and Pro Max because India lacks the ability to produce them in mass, according to the magazine.
Before Trump announces the latest trade agreement, Cook told analysts last month that the tariff war resulted in $ 900 million in additional cost for Apple this quarter.
