Openai would be interested in buying Google Chrome if antitrust implementers are successful in forcing the alphabet unit to sell internet browser known as part of an offer to restore search competition, an Openai executive testified Tuesday at Google Antitrust in Washington.
Product chief chatgpt Nick Turley made the statement while testifying to court when the US Justice Department seeks to ask Google to take extensive measures that restore competition in online search. The Judge who overseen the trial in Washington revealed last year that Google has a monopoly on online search and connected advertising.
Google has not offered chrome for sale. The company plans to appeal the decision that it holds a monopoly.
Turley testified earlier during the day Google fired an offer from Openai to use his search technology within chatgpt. Openai had reached Google after tried issues with his search provider, Turley said, without appointing the provider. Chatgpt uses technology from Microsoft, Bing’s search engine.
“We believe that having many partners, and in particular Google API, will enable us to provide a better product for users,” Openai told Google, according to an email shown in court.
Openai first arrived in July, and Google did not accept the request in August, saying it would include many competitors, according to the email.
“We have no partnership with Google today,” Turley said.
Proposal to make Google Sharing Research Data with competitors as a tool to restore competition would help accelerate efforts to improve chatgpt, Turley said.
Searching is a critical part of the chatgpt to answer the questions of users that are up -to -date and factual, Turley said. Chatgpt is years away from being able to use its own search technology to answer 80% of the questions, he added.
Prosecutors raised concerns in the opening of Monday statements that Google’s search monopoly could give advantages to him, and that his products are another way to bring users to his search engine.
Google has said the issue is not about him, and that he faces strong competition from the company including Meta platforms and Microsoft.
Completion of exclusive deals
In August, American district judge Amit Mehta revealed that Google defended the monopoly of her search through exclusive deals with Samsung Electronics and others to install his search engine as pre -election of new equipment.
